Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games: SMEs, your competition starts now

Birmingham is ramping up its activities in preparation for hosting the 2022 Commonwealth games and, while I’m probably one of the least sporty people you’ll meet, I am seriously excited!

As a local, living and working just 3 miles from Birmingham City centre, the promise of the necessary infrastructure upgrades across the region has me almost giddy (I don’t drive, so new train stations and tram depots will literally change my life).

As someone who works exclusively with UK SMEs, helping them to find and win tendered contracts, the opportunities on offer – to pretty much my entire client base – is nothing short of astonishing.

Just how big is this thing?

Yesterday I attended the first in a series of business briefings, hosted by Organising Committee Chairman John Crabtree and former Olympic, World and Commonwealth champion and broadcaster Jonathan Edwards.

The event, coordinated by FinditinBirmingham and supported by local and regional Chambers of Commerce, Local Authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships, offered the 500-odd attendees a wealth of information on the business opportunities arising from the Games, as well as related infrastructure projects, that are of interest to SMEs specifically. There were also panel discussions exploring the potential impact of these opportunities on the city and wider region as well as suppliers to previous Games giving us the benefit of their experience.

Honestly, the whole thing was so impressive that I am taking the rest of the week off now to sit and think and plan exactly how I can make the most of this, for both my own business and for my existing and potential clients.

Watch this space, or – better still – give me a shout and let’s talk it over; I want to be at the heart of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring Midlands SMEs together, to pull more investment into our region and to help put Birmingham squarely back on the map. Oh, and the sport thing should be fun too.

No doubt I will be posting more and more about this as time goes on. In the meantime, don’t just take my word for it, FinditinBirmingham have a whole extra site dedicated to Birmingham 2022.

What to do now:

Step 1: Register on the supplier portal, to make sure you’re first to hear of any opportunities suitable for your business

Step 2: Get in touch with me as soon as possible, so we can work together to prepare your business for the tenders you want to win

Let’s do this!
